2013 Chicago Urban Race
for CHD Research
Chicago, thank you for your overwhelming support of our inaugural Chicago Urban Race benefiting The Children's Heart Foundation which was a huge success! Fun was had by all and the weather was absolutely fantastic!
Nearly 300 racers who formed 90 teams converged on Lucky Strike on the morning of Saturday, April 27, 2013, before embarking on an urban adventure for charity and for some fun in the sun. In just a few short hours, we were collectively able to raise $1,780 for Congenital Heart Defects (CHD) research from just our charity t-shirt sale challenge and raffle alone !
The morning started off with a few words from our guest speaker, Bill Coon, a CHD survivor, two-time heart transplant recipient and kidney transplant recipient, who briefly recounted his life experience of being born with a CHD. We then sent all of our 90 teams on a clue-solving scavenger hunt to complete at least 9 of 10 checkpoint challenges around the Windy City that tested their wits and resourcefulness. At the conclusion of the Race, siblings Julia and Drew Hauber, the latter of whom is a CHD survivor, graciously gave closing comments before we announced Race and raffle prize winners.
We would like to congratulate the following winning teams of the first Chicago Urban Race:
